Piscina Barcelona and the Spanish association ASOFAP are organising a themed session featuring success stories and new business perspectives
Andalusia, a Land of Opportunity for the Pool and Wellness Sector
At Piscina Barcelona, the most international European trade show for the pool, wellness and outdoor sectors, the “Andalusia Day” professional conference will take place on 17 November. The event will focus on the region’s business dynamism, innovation and investment opportunities in the field of aquatic spaces. Organised by the Fira de Barcelona trade show in collaboration with ASOFAP (the Spanish Association of Pool Professionals), the session will present flagship projects that showcase the technological progress and sustainability of the pool industry in the region.
The day will begin with an institutional presentation offering an overview of Andalusia’s economic potential, its business support policies and the collaborative opportunities that make it an ideal ecosystem for the development of aquatic facility projects linked to wellness, tourism and innovation.
ASOFAP will also provide a general overview of the pool sector in Andalusia, highlighting its growing dynamism in areas such as hospitality, leisure parks and tourist resorts. The session will address the main lines of innovation, sustainability and business trends that will shape the industry’s evolution in the coming years.
Spain’s Largest Pool Stock
Andalusia leads Spain’s pool stock, with over 310,000 installations, representing almost 25% of the national total, according to ASOFAP data. This stock has maintained steady growth of 3–4% in recent years, with 90% of pools being residential. At a provincial level, Málaga and Seville stand out as the most significant markets, with more than 80,000 and 62,000 pools respectively, reflecting the region’s importance within Spain’s pool sector.
This positive trend is reinforced by the region’s strong property development activity. Andalusia accounts for 27.6% of new housing projects in Spain, with over 35,000 building permits issued in the last year alone, according to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. It is estimated that nearly one in five of these new homes includes a swimming pool—an increasingly standard feature in new developments and urbanisations across tourist and metropolitan areas.
At the same time, this boom reflects a new social perception: beyond increasing property value, swimming pools have become essential climate refuges during Andalusian summers. Access to private or communal aquatic spaces is now a key factor in home purchasing decisions.
Unprecedented Hotel Investment
The culture of water is deeply rooted in Andalusia—historically, culturally and within its lifestyle and tourism model—driving constant demand for aquatic facilities, particularly in the hotel and leisure sectors. This dynamic makes the region a strategic opportunity for the pool industry, fuelling remarkable growth in aquatic and wellness projects linked to tourism—a field in which Andalusia is a true powerhouse, expecting to welcome over 37 million visitors in 2025.
This appeal has triggered an unprecedented wave of hotel investment. According to EY-Parthenon’s Hotel Property Telescope report, Andalusia will add 260 new hotels by 2028, accounting for 34% of all new hotel supply in Spain. Of these, 60 will be five-star properties, targeting high-spending travellers and primarily located in Marbella, Málaga, Benahavís, Cádiz, Granada and Seville. Swimming pools and wellness spaces will feature in virtually all of them as a strategic value proposition.
Andalusian Trends and Success Stories
This extensive pool stock in Andalusia requires both maintenance and modernisation, driving growing demand for solutions related to sustainability and efficiency. Customers are paying increasing attention to design, equipment and technology that enable automated and simplified pool management. In addition, speed of project execution has become an increasingly valued factor in the marketplace.
To illustrate the sector’s potential, the “Andalusia Day” session will showcase two Andalusian projects that confirm these trends and demonstrate the success of focusing on water and energy sustainability, digitalisation to optimise maintenance, and the use of user-centred solutions to enhance the experience in pools and other aquatic environments.
The first case study, Aqualand Torremolinos, will detail the renovation and modernisation processes that have consolidated the park as a benchmark in aquatic leisure in southern Europe. The second, the wellness–outdoor concept of the Hotel Kimpton Los Monteros in Marbella, will present an internationally leading project combining cutting-edge design, sustainability and user experience.
Finally, a round table discussion will examine the strategic role of the pool sector in Andalusia’s economic development, urban planning, tourism and international positioning, highlighting its contribution to innovation and wellbeing. Panellists will include Antonio Díaz Bonilla, Pool Market Manager at Grupo Baeza; David Gómez, Director of Aqualand Torremolinos; Natali Canas del Pozo, Co-founder, Partner and Creative Director at El Equipo Creativo (the architecture studio behind the Hotel Kimpton Los Monteros design); and Agustí Ferrer, General Manager of ASOFAP.
