Piscina Barcelona 2025 to be one of the venues of the 13th International Landscape Biennial

The 13th International Landscape Biennial of Barcelona, organized by the Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya (COAC) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), is adding a new venue this year: the Piscina Barcelona trade fair, which will share the spotlight as a main stage alongside the Palau de la Música Catalana. This fair will host several professional sessions on landscape architecture and architecture, taking place on November 17 and 18 at the Gran Via venue.

The collaboration agreement signed between COAC and Fira de Barcelona –organizer of the Piscina Barcelona trade fair– aims to promote the design of sustainable, healthy outdoor spaces in dialogue with nature. In this regard, Piscina Barcelona has evolved in recent years to prominently incorporate landscaping, wellness, and outdoor environments into its proposal. The inclusion of the fair in the Biennial program strengthens this line of action and establishes a strategic link with the field of landscape architecture.

A shared program: architecture, landscape, and city

Thus, on November 17 and 18, the 13th International Landscape Biennial of Barcelona will bring together landscape and architecture experts at Piscina Barcelona 2025 to discuss the role of landscape in mitigating climate change and its contribution to current environmental challenges.

To this end, two initiatives aimed at professionals will take place within the framework of the fair. On Monday, November 17, the session “Insight the Project: academia, profession, business” will be held at the venue—a dialogue space designed to foster exchange between academia, the professional field, and the business sector, encouraging collective reflection on experiences, methodologies, and current challenges in landscape intervention.

On Tuesday, November 18, the fair will host the “Book Launch Fira”, an editorial showcase dedicated to recent publications on landscape, territory, and city. The session will be moderated by architect Octavi Mestre and organized in collaboration with La Capell bookstore, in a format designed to highlight contemporary thinking on landscape.

From November 19 to 21, the Biennial will move its activities to its other venue: the Palau de la Música Catalana. The program includes the Rosa Barba Casanovas International Landscape Prize, recognizing the best professional projects in the sector, with finalists featured in an exhibition, as well as the Ribas Piera International Landscape Schools Prize. In addition, this venue will host a theoretical symposium with the participation of international professionals and academics specializing in contemporary landscape architecture.

A strategic alliance with a vision for the future
For COAC, this synergy with Piscina Barcelona represents an opportunity to further expand the reach of the Biennial, opening the debate on landscape and its transformation to new related sectors such as wellness, outdoor design, and sustainable architecture. “The Biennial is not only an international forum for reflection; it is also a bridge between disciplines and professionals who share the same sensitivity towards territory, urban ecology, and contemporary design,” emphasizes Marina Cervera, Executive Director of the Biennial.

Ángel Celorrio, Director of Piscina Barcelona, adds: “This agreement represents a strategic step in our commitment to positioning the fair as a benchmark space for professionals in outdoor space design. The presence of the Biennial at the fair enriches our content and strengthens the connection between industry, architecture, and landscape—key aspects in the transformation of open-air environments.”

    Piscina Barcelona
Organized by Fira de Barcelona, Piscina Barcelona is Europe’s most international trade fair for the swimming pool, wellness, and outdoor sectors. Covering more than 45,000 m²—22% larger than the 2023 edition—it will bring together over 400 exhibitors from 30 countries and is expected to welcome more than 15,000 visitors from November 17 to 20 at the Gran Via venue. This year, it will double the space dedicated to outdoor equipment and design, reaffirming its role as a strategic platform to connect industry with architecture and new ways of inhabiting open-air spaces, all under a vision of sustainability and holistic well-being.

    13th Barcelona International Landscape Biennial
With a long-standing commitment to fostering critical reflection on territory, landscape, and the city, COAC—an institution of reference in promoting architecture and urbanism in Catalonia—has organized the International Landscape Biennial of Barcelona since 2000. This international forum brings together professionals, academics, and experts to debate landscape, both from an environmental and conservation perspective as well as through landscape architecture. This year’s edition will take place from November 17 to 21 within the framework of Piscina Barcelona at the Gran Via venue (free activities with online registration) and at the Palau de la Música Catalana (activities requiring ticket purchase).
